Paducah Tilghman blows out Henderson County in Henderson

Blue Tornado 28, Colonels 6. 6A Henderson County is the 2nd largest high school in KY with just under 2,000 students; largest high school west of Louisville. Henderson County has lost three straight. 4A Covington Catholic beat HC 49-28 two weeks ago in Covington. 4A Madisonville blistered Henderson County 49-0 last week in Henderson. Tilghman, of course, is 3A.

Contender or Pretender pt. 2

usher_02.jpg

These are my predictions...

Just when I thought I said all I could say....

MadSouth played South Laurel and nearly gave it away...

These are my predictions...

I was torn, now I know exactly what to do...

I guess I have to give part two of my predictions...

If I'm gonna tell it then I gotta tell it all...

Dang near left Highlands because CovCath couldn't keep the ball...

I was torn, now I know exactly what to do..

Now I'm about to give part two of my predictions...

(Thanks Usher for lending the instrumentals to Confessions pt. 2 to play to the tune of my newest CONTENDER or PRETENDER thread)

HERE ARE THE PREDICTIONS I THINK I MESSED UP IN THE FIRST EDITION:

Newport Central Catholic -- PRETENDER

Changed my mind with these guys. I think they can still get to the state championship, but have no chance once they get there against whoever comes from the west.

Paducah Tilghman -- PRETENDER

Probably should have went this way to start.

Madison Southern -- PRETENDER

Say it ain't so, Eagles. After that performance at home, on homecoming, against South Laruel what am I to think?

HERE ARE SOME NEW TAKES:

Iroquois -- PRETENDER

Sorry for raining on the Raiders' undefeated parade, but an overtime win to a bad John Hardin team doesn't make you legit.

Mason Co. -- PRETENDER

Running though a bunny-slope schedule won't get anyone ready for the playoffs, especially when you're not of that caliber to begin with.

Central Hardin -- CONTENDER

May regret this later but the Bruins seem to be legit to me.

Owensboro -- CONTENDER

I think the Devils are among the top teams in 4A. Barring an act of choking once they get there, I think they'll be a tough out for anyone.

Franklin Simpson -- PRETENDER

Mac, can we still be friends?

Central -- CONTENDER

In a loss against St. Xavier, Central proved it can still be a force in 3A.

Corbin -- CONTENDER

With a question mark at the top of 3A, why can't the Redhounds be in the discussion.

PREDICTIONS THAT REMAIN THE SAME:

Caldwell Co. -- CONTENDER
DeSales -- CONTENDER
Glasgow -- PRETENDER
Belfry -- CONTENDER
South Warren -- CONTENDER
Bourbon Co. -- CONTENDER
Boyle Co. -- CONTENDER
Lexington Catholic -- PRETENDER
Highlands -- CONTENDER
Covington Catholic -- PRETENDER
Bowling Green -- CONTENDER
Warren Central -- PRETENDER
Pulaski Co. -- CONTENDER
McCracken Co, -- PRETENDER
Meade Co. -- PRETENDER
Male -- CONTENDER
Trinity -- CONTENDER
St. Xavier -- PRETENDER
Simon Kenton -- PRETENDER
Scott Co. -- PRETENDER
Lafayette -- PRETENDER

Hot seat

We're five weeks into the high school football season and things are starting to take shape. Some teams who seemed to have a promising 2014 season are struggling and with that parents/alumni/fans are calling for some head coaches' jobs.

What coaches are on the hot seat this year in Kentucky? Is it fair that they're there?

OHS @ Madisonville..

Im kind of shocked no one is talking about this game. 4A's #4 team traveling to play #6. Madisonville is coming off a MONSTER win vs a Henderson team that went toe to toe with Evansville Reitz and led Cov Cath at halftime. That 49-0 score AT Henderson got my attention. Im sure it got coach Prince's attention as well. Until that result i would have taken OHS by 4 touchdowns in this game. Now im not so sure. Maybe Madisonville is much better than we thought?? Or is Henderson just in disarray?? One thing i do know is that OHS is for real. I believe they will be the best team on the field for the remaining part of their regular season schedule. Im still leaning toward taking OHS by more than 2 scores but i admit, that 49-0 score looms large in my thought process for this game.

***Final Scores (I hate franklin)** Bowling Green Area Pick 'em Week 5 9/26

Make a pick and say why.

Logan County 6 at Allen County-Scottsville 26
Barren County 0 vs Bowling Green 63
Butler County 14 vs Owensboro Catholic 52
Franklin-Simpson 21 at Russellville 20
Glasgow 23 at Monroe County 21
South Warren 40 at Edmonson County 0
Warren Central 38 at Greenwood 21
Warren East 0 vs Meade County 10

Graves hosting district foe Apollo

This Friday night Graves County will host Owensboro Apollo. Both teams are looking for their 1st district win and 2nd win of the season. Apollo coming of a convincing win over a weak Hopkins County Central team. Graves coming of 2 back to back losses where their offense has struggled. Graves won last years game at Apollo 60-14 but this isn't the same Graves team. With high expectations coming in, they seem to be down from their past years.

The Dissection of BG v McCallie

I'm about to step on toes, and frankly I don't care.

Kevin Wallace lost that game for Bowling Green, not the players. That was single handedly some of the worst coaching in the fourth quarter that I have EVER seen and I've seen some stupid coaches do some stupid things (I mean I am a Greenwood fan). The way he handled those last three minutes of the game should go down as the WORST coaching decisions I have ever seen. Absolutely horrendous. For you to call time out with 2:30 left on the clock instead of running the ball regardless of down and distance is pathetic coaching. To use that timeout to try and throw a vertical to Bradley Wierson on the sideline to just try and score instead of keeping the ball and giving the FASTEST team I've ever seen 2:00 on the clock is pathetic coaching. BG did NOT deserve to lose because of the way their team played. Frankly, they didn't deserve to lose at all. But the debacle that was Kevin Wallace's handling of the situation is what lost them that game.

In the end, I was right. But I didn't want to be. At all.

Congratulations to McCallie for an AMAZING game.

Congratulations on the PLAYERS of Bowling Green High School, have fun unleashing some anger on the rest of your opponents. For the next 10 weeks, I choose BG over anyone they play, and may God have mercy on their souls.

Damien Harris

Hearing a lot of things about Kentucky's first ever five-star.

As first reported by Kentucky Preps, Harris might take his Official Visit to Kentucky this weekend when the Wildcats take on Vandy. He expressed his wishes for a Kentucky win when he took the visit. It's especially important that the Cats get this win because of the next piece of information I'm about to lay out here.

Hearing that Harris didn't have that great of an Official Visit with Ohio State. It wasn't all because the Buckeyes performance on the field, but the game shaped the weekend in an unfavorable mold for them. Of course the night he spent in Columbus wasn't as exciting because of what transpired on the field. And the next day when he met with Urban Meyer it didn't go as well as it usually does because of the lingering effects of the loss.

Right now, I believe the two-horse race has flipped to Kentucky vs. Alabama.

Bamawill have Harris on hand for the Iron Bowl. His relationship with coachKevin Steel is said to be very solid. The Tide has as good of a shot as any to land the top prospect.

Harris told Kentucky Preps he's probably going to cut his list one more time before making a decision for two reasons. One: to choose among three schools instead of five, in his final days. Two: so the other coaches will have some time to recruit other kids before NSD.

If and when Harris narrows it down expect to see Kentucky, Alabama and Ohio State.

Damien Harris -- Prospect Profile

Hancock Co @ Owensboro Catholic...

Attention Aces and Hornets fans.....1027 The Game will be holding a big tailgate before the game on Friday. We'll have cornhole, free hotdogs & drinks, movie ticket & T-shirt give aways. Were looking forward to getting out and meeting a lot of the local fans who have supported the Homers show! Judging by the reaction of Hornet nation, they are going to represent in large numbers so Aces fans, dont let the road team show you up at home! Come on out and play some cornhole, eat some dogs and win some prizes.

As for the game, it should be a good one. Nothing like a district rivalry game on a Friday night. I know Catholic are favorites coming in, but in these bad blood type of games, anything can happen. Hancock has already posted an impressive win vs Trigg Co a few weeks ago. On the other side, Shamari Morton has been about as electric of a player as they come across western Kentucky. I also love the matchup of two of the states top ranked passers in Ray Zuerber and Kourt Morris. This one has all the makings......hope to see you out there on Friday night!
