Landon Young

While speaking with 2016 Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette OL Landon Young and his parents last night I got a hold of information that Young may take all of his official visits, even though he's committed to Kentucky already.

They would like their son to take advantage of the opportunities he's given and will be given as a Division-I prospect. Young and his parents admittedly bleed blue. But at the same time a free trip is a free trip.

Doubt you'll ever see Young de-commit much less sign anywhere than with the big blue.

Mike Nero

Louisville, Ky. running back Mike Nero does have an offer from Toledo and the Rockets really want to land the duPont Manual star. Though Nero has his sights set on bigger schools who honestly aren't as interested as he would like. A MAC school seems like it will be the destination for him. If by chance Nero does receive an offer from a major conference school expect him to jump on it fast. He could also end up at Morehead St. as they have given him their equivalent of an offer.

Cordia basketball suspended for 2014-15

Cordia High School Receives Sanctions From KHSAA; Boys' Basketball Team Suspended From Play in 2014-15

July 28, 2014

2014-2015 News Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 28, 2014

The Kentucky High School
Athletic Association has handed down sanctions to Cordia High School
following a nearly yearlong investigation for violations of KHSAA bylaws
including Bylaw 1 (Responsibility of Eligibility), Bylaw 4 (Enrollment
Requirements), Bylaw 6 (Transfer Rule-Citizens of the U.S. or U.S.
Territories), Bylaw 7 (Transfer Rule-Foreign Exchange Students), Bylaw
11 (Financial Aid), Bylaw 16 (Recruitment/Undue Influence), Bylaw 23
(Limitation of Season) and Bylaw 25 (Requirements for Coaches).

Among the penalties imposed by the Commissioner are:

Suspension of the Cordia HS
boys' basketball team from playing scrimmages or contests during the
2014-15 regular and postseason, as well as the 2016 postseason. During
its suspension, the school would be permitted to conduct regular season
practices from October 15 until the first allowable day for district
tournament play. Included in this penalty is a stipulation that
representatives of the boys' basketball team with eligibility remaining
may transfer to specific KHSAA member schools without penalty;

Forfeiture of all boys'
basketball games from the 2013-14 season for the use of at least one
ineligible player in all games. The score will be recorded as 2-0 for
all games which Cordia won, and the game score will remain the same for
losses but will be noted as forfeits;

Probation for Cordia's
interscholastic athletic program through the 2018-19 season. With this
probation, Cordia will be placed on conditional membership, with its
membership status to be reviewed at the end of the 2014-15 school year
to determine whether its membership should continue to be recommended
for approval by the Board of Control beginning with the 2015-16 season.
Also as part of its probation, all Cordia coaches and athletic
administrators shall be required to attend an in-service workshop in
Lexington, conducted by the KHSAA staff concerning Association Bylaws
and Kentucky law that affects interscholastic athletics during the
2014-15 school year. Additionally, an Assistant Commissioner will also
be assigned to work directly with the Superintendent of schools and the
Principal of Cordia to ensure development of policies, procedures and
best practices to be implemented in the athletic program;

Suspension of two members
of the Cordia HS boys' basketball coaching staff from the 2014-15
postseason boys' basketball tournaments sanctioned by KHSAA.

An aggregate fine of $25,980 for various infractions per the fine schedule in Bylaw 27.

"The majority of the
aforementioned violations are clearly indicative of a school without any
appreciable level of institutional control over its athletic program.
While some violations date back to the 2010-2011 school year, the major
violations occurred during the past twelve to twenty-four months. The
violations in previous years, however, add context and it is my
conclusion that they illustrate an undeniable pattern of practice and
culture of noncompliance that has been allowed to evolve at Cordia,"
said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett in his communication to the
school. "Unfortunately, after this long and careful review, this series
of events may well represent the most wanton and blatant disregard for
Association rules in its 97 year history. There is apparently no person
within the school or school system willing to actively and aggressively
control and manage the athletic program. Therefore, students have been
allowed an unrestricted privilege of participation without compliance
with applicable and appropriate rules.

"Participation in
interscholastic athletics has long been recognized as a privilege and
not a right. This is an important distinction. With this privilege comes
responsibility. A theme throughout this matter has been the
participation, whether at practice or competition, of ineligible
student-athletes," added Tackett. "The participation by any ineligible
students may have affected the outcome of those games. Moreover,
participation by an ineligible student-athlete potentially jeopardizes
coverage under the KHSAA's catastrophic insurance policy that is
provided for all student-athletes. The collective Association of member
schools, including Cordia, have agreed to abide by the Bylaws of the
KHSAA which are indisputable when the knowledge is there to prevent an
ineligible player from participating."

During the course of its
investigation, the KHSAA found sufficient evidence that representatives
of the athletic program, including representatives of the Lotts Creek
Community School who are inextricably related to both the school and its
athletic program, committed violations of KHSAA bylaws, many of which
were acknowledged by the school, including:

Falsifying records, or maintaining inaccurate records with regards to living arrangements of transferring student-athletes;

Allowing a staff member to lease housing to the family of a student-athlete without ever receiving payment;

Impermissible contact with
multiple student-athletes with the intent to sway them to enroll at
Cordia for the purpose of competing in athletics;

Providing free transportation to relocate a student from an out-of-state school;

Providing plane tickets on two separate occasions to a student-athlete so he could travel out-of-state;

Facilitating housing for a student-athlete at no cost to him or his family;

Providing money and clothes to student-athletes;

Conducting tryouts for non-enrolled students;

Paying the entire cost of education for two students on an F-1 exchange VISA to attend Cordia;

Providing housing to numerous students that participated on the boys' basketball team, as well as housing for their families;

Allowing ineligible players to practice and compete in contests before they were cleared to participate;

Requiring players to attend
practice prior to the official start date for preseason practice
(October 15), and disciplining students who missed these practice
sessions;

Holding "open gym"
practices that were limited to the boys' basketball team and thus
mandatory, following the elimination from the postseason; and

Failing to properly monitor
the coaching requirements for individuals coaching in the boys'
basketball program, including the obligation to complete the
legislatively mandated Sports Safety Course. These violations included a
30-day period during the 2013-14 season when no member of the coaching
staff met the requirements of Bylaw 25.

Cordia has thirty (30) days
to appeal the ruling to the KHSAA Board of Control. The KHSAA will have
no further comment on this matter. All inquiries should be directed to
Cordia High School or the Superintendent of the Knott County Schools.

Elijah Sindelar

Had a source a while back tell me 2015 Princeton (Ky.) Caldwell Co. QB Elijah Sindelar could end up going to the MLB instead if playing for Purdue. When I was chatting with Sindelar at McCracken's 7 v 7 he didn't really seem to think it was something real, but he also didn't make it known it wasn't.

Not sure how much stock to put in that, if any at all, but it is something to keep in mind. It also may explain why Purdue is still in talks with 2015 Louisville (Ky.) Male QB Davis Mattingly.

All in all, I'm sure he'll be a Boilermaker when all Is said and done.

Davis Mattingly

Louisville, Ky. quarterback Davis Mattingly has no offers as of now and sit at about the same place on every recruiting board. WKU, Kentucky, Illinois, Cincinnati all have legitimate interest in Mattingly, it's just that they value other quarterback above him. He, like Reese Ryan, is a legit contender for a UK scholarship. I'm also told that the Wildcats value Mattingly over Ryan. Mattingly sharpened up his throwing motion recently and added weight onto him frame, both things that were issues for recruiters.

Emmitt Smith

Bowling Green (Ky.) Warren Central linebacker Emmitt Smith doesn't look much like a linebacker any more. He's put on a good amount of weight and now translates into a college defensive tackle. What level of a college tackle remains to be seen. Smith claimed he committed to Cincinnati at one time, but information came down there was no actual offer out to him from the Bearcats. He also claims offers from Arizona St., Purdue and WKU, though there is no confirmation if those are legit, either. Honestly, it seems we'll have to wait until signing day to see what the real deal is with Smith's recruitment.

Reese Ryan

Lexington, Ky. quarterback Reese Ryan was rumored to be on the verge of acommitment not too long ago, but nothing ever came. He claims offers from Illinois, Louisville and Ohio. Both the Louisville and Illinois offers came some time ago. It was actually Charlie Strong's staff that handed that one out. So there is not telling if that's a valid offer, or not any more. Kentucky is still seeking a quarterback in this class and Ryan has camped with Kentucky this summer and was watched closely. So something could happen there, but some more dominoes would have to fall before hand.

Donald Brooks

Trinity's Donald Brooks is still without an offer. The three-star back is a tween'er (back/slot) and I think schools are waiting to see how this year pans out and if he can become competent as a true running back or he'll be playing a little of both. Kentucky, Louisville are interested, but honestly I don't see an offer coming from either of those schools. If Brooks is to be wearing blue or red it would be from a walk-on route. Not sure what WKU's stance on Brooks is, but I haven't seen interest between one another either way. Some MAC schools are also interested, but Brooks didn't camp with those schools which may hinder his recruitment in the long run.

Devon Wharton

Hopkinsville, Ky. athlete Devon Wharton claimed an offer from Kentucky not too long ago. And while the Wildcats are interested there's still come NCAA qualifications to be met. So that offer is a possibility, but I'm told it's not set in stone. Wharton does have WKU and a host of I-AA schools after him, where he would have to meet those same qualification standards. So it's a waiting game with Wharton.

Four-star Cincinnati LB's commitment could help OSU with Harris

Four-star Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier LB Justin Hilliard is set to make a commitment today. Like many heavily recruited prospects do, Hilliard and Damien Harris have become friends. Ohio St. is a big player in both of their recruitments. So if Hilliard gives the Buckeyes his word it could push Harris toward them.

How much of an effect will it have? Who knows., but it's something to take into account.

Wharton tells Kentuckypreps.com Kentucky offered

2015 Hopkinsville (Ky.) Christian Co. athlete Devon Wharton camped with both participants of the annual Battle for the Governor's Cup, rivals Kentucky and Louisville.

Tuesday, Wharton -- 6-feet-2, 215-pounds -- told Kentuckypreps.com he was awarded an offer from Kentucky after the camp.

At both camps, he was showcased as a linebacker. Which he is fine with and plans to start changing his body to reflect as so.

Devon Wharton - Prospect Profile

2016 OC Jackson makes a pit stop at UK before beginning the camp scene

2016 Versailles (Ky.) center Drake Jackson made a pit stop at Kentucky before embarking on his camp schedule that will engulf many powers of this region.

Jackson said his time there was "Awesome, had a great time with Coach (John) Schlarman. Spent a lot of time together."

He will begin his college camp schedule with Ohio State, Saturday. And the Woodford Co. elite lineman will be back at Kentucky Wednesday.

UK, Neal Brown to make another round in Louisville

According to multiple sources, UK offensive coordinator, Neal Brown, will be on recruiting duty in the Louisville area once again Tuesday.

Kentuckypreps.com has confirmed two of the stops he will make and who he will see. Tyler Jefferson of Doss is a rather big target he will be in to see. He will also be into see little-known 2016 prospect Devin Gentry of Male. Gentry is a track Star, but played defensive back for the Bulldogs this past season.

More to Jefferson's offer from Ball St.

Doss' tight end Tyler Jefferson is definitely one of the rising prospects around the Bluegrass.

After impressing Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana other schools began to inquire about the to-be senior. Now after being evaluated by some coaches the 6-foot-3 Jefferson has accumulated two offers. The first was from Tennessee Martin and now the latest that came on Thursday from Ball St.

Ball St.'s offering of a scholarship is calling for Jefferson to be a wide receiver. Something he;s fine with "I think I can play both. They had me ruin today and said they wanted me as a receiver."

There's a lot of time between now and national signing day and Jefferson plans to pick up as many offers as possible during that allotment of time.

2016 Bball Offers

Quentin Goodin (Taylor County) - Holds offers from UNLV, Purdue, Michigan, Indiana, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Tennessee, UAB, Oklahoma State, Western Kentucky, Northern Kentucky and Samford.

2015 tight end edging closer to first offer

Kentuckypreps.com was the first recruiting site to post anything about 6-foot-3, 213-pound Louisville (Ky.) Doss tight end Tyler Jefferson. Now he is on the verge of getting his first offer.

Toledo is said to be very close to offering him and it is believed to be coming at their prospect camp. WKU is the other school involved and are also believed to be sending out an offer at their camp.

With the Wildcats likely getting tight end CJ Conrad (OHIO) this Friday that will likely kill any chances Jefferson had from getting a scholarship from there. That means, should they offer, the Hilltoppers would be in the driver seat.
